History
Cascina Gretaio is an ancient colonic Florentine house resaling to mid 17th century, placed in a nutural niche sorrounded by “Catena delle Balze”, small moutanious complex one in the world for its format, painted by the genius Leonardo da Vinci behind Gioconda’ shoulders.
One time Cascina Gretaio was been a pregnant women’s accepting, too. A local parrish priest managed all structure and he offered asylum at all those tough women and they ‘ve been successful to live well thanks to the extant chimney.
He breeded different kind of home-raised animals and utilized all that grew up from the nearest wood: mushrooms, fruits and game (even now!).
Afterward the small “ospital” was bought by a big family for this reason the house was named the “maidens’ house”, because of all seven sister were been spinsters!
Recently renovated, Cascina Gretaio mantain even now its owns history’s root, between its secular walls and in its furniture all in a typical tuscan style.
