History
Cascina Gretaio is an ancient colonic Florentine house dated to the middle of 17th century in the heart of Tuscany’s countryside, built in a natural niche of Catena delle Balze. This small and unique mountainous range is been painted by the genius Leonardo da Vinci behind the shoulders of Monna Lisa known as Gioconda.
Long time ago Cascina Gretaio was a shelter pregnant women. The local priest was managing it and helping to maintain this facility offering asylum at all those unfortunate women providing them food and living thanks to the still extant huge fireplace. He had farm and barnyard animals as well as taking advantage of the nearest woods picking mushrooms, fruits and hunting game.
Afterwards the small ‘hospital’ was bought by a big family for this reason the house was named the Maidens’ House, because all seven sisters were all spinsters!
Recently renovated by Gatti Family, Cascina Gretaio maintain even now it owns historic roots, between its secular walls, the typical Tuscan style furniture and its atmosphere.
The villa
Surrounded by a gorgeous garden with swimming pool it is been perfectly renovated preserving its original hick town imprint.
Cascina Gretaio is the ideal place to lapse into an oasis of peace and relax dipped into nature a stone away from a beautiful game reserve.
The five large and characteristic bedrooms of the Villa which are all furnished in a typical Tuscan style (one has a cradle included) are been maintained in pristine and cosy conditions to preserve the atmosphere of the house.
The folksy kitchen is independent and with its huge fireplace is ideal for indoors BBQ. All around the house you will be surrounded by lovely meadows well looked after, perfect for an open-air lunch or a dinner under the stars.
The landlords
Dario and Francesca are the owners of Cascina Gretaio and they have a daughter, Viola. They consider themselves funny people and always available to assist the house guests helping to fully enjoy theirs holiday!!
They bought this Villa in 2004, because it is always been a life dream to have a unique place like this, where the nature and the panorama make your heart beating! A peaceful ‘island’ of daily serenity…a small paradise which Gatti’s Family desires to let appreciate to each single guest visiting them!
